October 28th, 2021, will go down as a very important day in the history of digital marketing. As I’m sure you’ve heard, Facebook Inc. was rebranded as Meta. This marks Facebook’s official transformation from being a social media company, to becoming a Metaverse company. A significant transformation.

You might be thinking, what is the Metaverse, and how does it affect me? Let’s dive into it.

What is the Metaverse?

A simple question, but not a simple answer. The Metaverse is an inspirational term for a future, more tangible, digital world. Mark Zuckerberg says “The Metaverse will be an embodied internet where you’re in the experience, not just looking at it”.

So, while there is no universal definition for the Metaverse, it has begun to take shape through shared understandings and the feelings of a shared space.

Marketing in the Metaverse

The best marketers never stop learning and exploring the ever-changing possibilities in the field. If you don’t innovate or continuously explore future possible growth areas, you could be missing out on huge possibilities.

Any and all major trends are bound to influence the realms of business and marketing. Stay on top of the trends, and see how they become involved in the Metaverse.

Be Alert for Opportunities in Facebook’s Meta Offerings

Facebook is still in the early stages of it’s Meta transition. As it progresses, you may be able to create Facebook Ads within the Metaverse, and create your own virtual store.

Virtual Real Estate

No different than owning land is owning virtual land. It’s an investment, similar to physical real estate, and you may be able to rent or resell.

NFT’s

Create your own NFT to raise brand awareness. Create an NFT with your logo, or to promote a product. NFT’s are something you may need to educate yourself on. It may seem intimidating to create an NFT if you don’t know much about them. The technology is rapidly advancing, and a simple search can teach you everything you need to know. Just like creating an app became simpler for non-techies, the same will happen for NFT’s.

The Metaverse will provide many opportunities for small and large businesses to reach a wider audience. You’re not going to figure it out in one afternoon. No one is really an expert, as we’re still in the early stages of the Metaverse. Similar to the Internet in the 1990’s, it’ll take us time to learn and adjust. However, don’t dismiss it as too complicated. Try to learn as much as you can at your own pace, and keep an eye out for creative ways to promote your business through the Metaverse.
